Christopher Davidson is the Director, Corporate Sustainability at WestRock.
His responsibilities include ensuring that WestRock is a recognized global leader in sustainability, and projecting the company’s interests into the national and international debates on sustainability and natural resource issues. This includes facilitating WestRock’s position as a strategic partner, supplier, and resource in sustainability for our customers and stakeholders, both internal and external. Chris also works with national and international NGO’s on issues relating to sustainability and corporate responsibility.
Chris has worked in the forest products industry for over 18 years and prior to WestRock held positions of increasing responsibility with Georgia Pacific, Champion International, International Paper and MWV.
He also serves on the boards of the Forest History Society, VCU Rice Rivers Center, and the Virginia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
Why do you want to serve on the SPC Executive Committee?
I see my participation on the Executive committee as an opportunity to use my experience in the forest products industry to help increase the recognition and relevance of SPC with a broader group of brand owners and other stakeholders. I also hope to learn more about the various types of sustainable packaging outside of the substrate that I’m most familiar with, wood-fiber based packaging.
What can you contribute to the SPC Executive Committee?
I have worked in the forest products industry for 21 years. My responsibilities have allowed me to interact with a broad base of stakeholders, including brand owners, manufacturers, converters, academic institutions, environmental NGO’s and activists. Their understanding of what sustainability means and their expectations for sustainable packaging have grown considerably over the last two decades. I believe that my experience, and the network I have developed, will be useful to the committee as SPC works to create value for the membership and expand its influence in the highly competitive arena of sustainability and sustainable packaging.
